MANOR TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A charity in Westmoreland County thought it would have to shut down for good when it found itself needing thousands of dollars in repairs, with no money to get the work done. The church bell tower at Envision Ministries in Manor Township was ripped apart by a storm that sent bricks flying to the ground over the weekend."We couldn't find anybody that would help us, and we could lose the whole building if it (the bell tower) would fall and collapse into the building," ministry director Kristen Wach said.
At the 11th hour, the cavalry came riding in -- not on horses, but on flatbeds. Two companies -- Mangery & Sons and Landers Service -- offered to take the destroyed bell tower apart so the ministry could stay together."It's worth it, just to help out," Frank Mangery said. After a final, ceremonial ringing of the bell, they began a brick-by-brick deconstruction of the bell tower for free."They're doing a good thing here, and just try to help them get their church so they can open the doors," Mangery said."He's an excellent man," Wach said. "I can't believe someone would just step up to the plate like that, and it's just so nice to see other people give with their heart and soul."
