Pittsburgh Electric Engines Plant Opens In Mount Pleasant

MOUNT PLEASANT, Pa. -- The new Pittsburgh Electric Engines, Inc. facility celebrated its official opening Monday on East Main Street in Mount Pleasant, Westmoreland County.Employees at the plant, which used to be a Lenox glass plant, are developing a turbo fuel cell engine for commercial and military vehicles. It's a combination of a fuel cell and a turbine.The U.S. Department of Defense wants to use the engines in heavy trucks as a mobile electric power source on the battlefield.
U.S. Rep. John Murtha, chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, attended a ribbon-cutting event at the new plant Monday.
