Elementary School Student Under Doctor's Care

WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. -- Another local student has contracted methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus, a potentially fatal staff infection if not treated the right way.WTAE Channel 4's news-exchange partners at The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported Sunday that a student at the Homeville Elementary School in West Mifflin has been diagnosed with MRSA.Crews fumigated the school on Friday and the student remains under a doctor's care.A previous diagnosis of MRSA was reported on Tuesday in the Armstrong School District, and earlier in the Center Area School District.MRSA is resistant to some antibiotics and is transmitted by skin-to-skin contact or shared items like towels, razors or bandages.
